Kendrick Brett Meek[1] (born September 6, 1966) has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 2003, representing Florida's 17th congressional district.[2] He is a member of the New Democrat Coalition. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives on November 5, 2002,[3] succeeding his mother, Congresswoman Carrie Meek, who retired from the seat.[4] He is the Democratic nominee in the 2010 Senate elections for the Senate seat vacated by Mel Martinez.[5]

Florida received international attention for its role in the 2000 Presidential election, where Bush led Gore by only a couple of hundred votes when the Supreme Court of the United States ended a recount. It had also played a role in the equally contested 1876 Presidential election and is often seen as one of the key swing states in Presidential elections.[2]

Florida held its 2008 Presidential primary on January 29, 2008 after a bill was passed in May 2007 moving it forward in the electoral calendar.[3] This move was in violation of party rules restricting primaries held before February 5 to Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina. The Democratic Party eventually decided to strip Florida of all its 210 delegates in the Democrats' convention, while the Republicans stripped Florida of half its delegates to the GOP convention. A federal judge dismissed a suit from Democratic Senator Bill Nelson against the DNC and chairman Howard Dean to overturn this decision.[4]

The 2004 Arizona primary took place on February 3, 2004 as part of the 2004 United States Democratic presidential primaries. The delegate allocation is Proportional. the candidates are awarded delegates in proportion to the percentage of votes received and is open to registered Democrats only. A total of 55 (of 64) delegates are awarded proportionally. A 15 percent threshold is required to receive delegates. Frontrunner John Kerry won the primary with former general Wesley Clark coming second.

In 2003 the Arizona primary had been moved up from February 24 to February 3 by Democratic Governor Janet Napolitano in order to give the state more influence in the nomination contest.[1]

Richard Lynn "Rick" Scott (born December 1, 1952) is a candidate for Florida governor, a businessman, healthcare industry executive, lawyer and founder of Conservatives for Patients' Rights (CPR), a group that advocates against expanding the U.S. government's role in healthcare. He is competing in the 2010 Florida gubernatorial election.[1]

Scott served in the U.S. Navy and then went into business redeveloping donut shops while in college. He earned a business degree, law degree and joined a Dallas firm where he became partner. In 1987 he helped found the Columbia Hospital Corporation with two business partners. It was merged with Columbia Hospital Corporation of America in 1989 to form Columbia/HCA and eventually became the largest health care company in the U.S.

Scott was ousted by Columbia/HCA's board of directors in 1997 in the midst of the nation's biggest health care fraud scandal. The company ultimately settled the Medicaid and Medicare fraud allegations and paid out a total of $1.7 billion dollars in fines and civil claims.[2][3] After his departure from Columbia/HCA, Scott established Richard L. Scott Investments, a private investment firm based in Naples, Florida that owns stakes in health care, manufacturing and technology companies.

Republic John Shadegg, the incumbent in the 3rd district, announced that he would not seek re-election on January 14, 2010.[3] On the Republican side, Ben Quayle, son of former vice-president Dan Quayle, announced his of February 12, 2010,[4][5] despite never voting in a local election.[6] Other notable Republicans in the race include former state representative Sam Crump, former state senators Pamela Gorman and Jim Waring, and former Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker. The only Democrat in that race is Jon Hulburd.[7]

Both the 5th and 8th districts' Democratic incumbents, Harry Mitchell and Gabrielle Giffords, respectively, are seeking reelection.[8] Mitchell faces a Republican challenge from former Maricopa County Treasurer David Schweikert, Jeffrey W. Smith, Jim Ward while Gifford's biggest Republican challengers include fromer State Senator Jonathan Paton and construction manager Jesse Kelly.[9]

The first mechanical or wind-up toys were made back in Grecian times - but the art was revived by watch makers and clock makers during the 1400s. Early in the 1500s,[1] a German clockmaker named Claus made a box for a local prince whose son was about to celebrate his fifth birthday. The mineral pyrite, or iron pyrite, is an iron sulfide with the formula FeS2. This mineral's metallic lustre and pale-to-normal, brass-yellow hue have earned it the nickname fool's gold because of its resemblance to gold. The color has also led to the nicknames brass, brazzle and Brazil, primarily used to refer to pyrite found in coal.[5][6]

Pyrite is the most common of the sulfide minerals. The name pyrite is derived from the Greek πυρίτης (puritēs), "of fire" or "in fire", from πύρ (pur), "fire". In ancient Roman times, this name was applied to several types of stone that would create sparks when struck against steel; Pliny the Elder described one of them as being brassy, almost certainly a reference to what we now call pyrite.[7] By Georgius Agricola's time, the term had become a generic term for all of the sulfide minerals.[8]

Pyrite is usually found associated with other sulfides or oxides in quartz veins, sedimentary rock, and metamorphic rock, as well as in coal beds, and as a replacement mineral in fossils. Despite being nicknamed fool's gold, pyrite is sometimes found in association with small quantities of gold. Gold and arsenic occur as a coupled substitution in the pyrite structure. In the Carlin, Nevada, gold deposit, arsenian pyrite contains up to 0.37 wt% gold.[9] Auriferous pyrite is a valuable ore of gold.

3:10 to Yuma

3:10 to Yuma is the 2007 remake of the 1957 film of the same name, making it the second adaptation of Elmore Leonard's short story Three-Ten to Yuma. It is directed by James Mangold and produced by Cathy Konrad, and stars Russell Crowe and Christian Bale. Filming took place in various locations in New Mexico. 3:10 to Yuma opened September 7, 2007, in the United States.
In the late 19th century, Dan Evans (Christian Bale), an impoverished rancher and Civil War veteran, although sitting awake and armed to prevent it, has his barn torched, set ablaze by two men working for Glen Hollander, to whom Evans owes money. The next morning, as Evans and his two sons herd, they stumble upon outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) and his gang using Evans' cattle as a road blockade to ambush an armored stagecoach. As he loots the stage, Wade discovers Evans and his two sons watching from the hills. Acknowledging that they pose no threat, Wade takes their horses telling Evans that he will leave them tied up on the road to Bisbee.

Wade travels with his gang to the town of Bisbee, Arizona to enjoy a celebratory drink at the local saloon. Meanwhile, the railroad guards find Evans and his sons with Byron McElroy (Peter Fonda), a Pinkerton agent and lone survivor of the ambush. Evans reveals Bisbee as Wade's likely destination, where the guards immediately return, joined by Evans and McElroy. While Doc Potter (Alan Tudyk), the local medic/veterinarian, treats McElroy, Evans tries negotiating with Hollander, who reveals his intentions to sell the land to the railroad rather than grant water rights to Evans. Enraged at the loss of his livelihood, Evans tries confronting Hollander in the nearby saloon where he finds Wade, whom he distracts long enough for the railroad guards to ambush and arrest him.

The coach's owner, Grayson Butterfield (Dallas Roberts), enlists McElroy, Potter, Tucker (Kevin Durand), one of Hollander's guards, and Evans, who agree for a $200 fee to deliver Wade for arrest. From Evans' ranch, McElroy arranges a decoy wagon to distract Wade's gang, now led by Charlie Prince (Ben Foster), while the real convoy charts a course for Contention, where Wade will be put on the 3:10 P.M. train to Yuma Territorial Prison. As the group prepares to ride out, Evans' older son William (Logan Lerman) demands to accompany them. Evans flatly refuses.

During the journey, Wade kills Tucker during his sleep with a fork stolen from Evans' house, and later McElroy (the former for claiming his horse and the latter for insulting his mother) but is stopped from escaping by the surprise arrival of William, who had followed the group all the way from the ranch. While taking a shortcut through a canyon, the group is attacked by Apache warriors. Evans is wounded but Wade saves him, arms himself, and kills the attackers. Following the shootout, Wade escapes to a Chinese laborer construction camp blasting a tunnel through the mountain range, where the foreman captures Wade for having killed his brother. His assistant, Zeke (Luke Wilson), tortures Wade with electric shocks. Evans, William, Potter, and Butterfield appear and after unsuccessful attempts at negotiation, Potter leads an attack on the foremen and his miners, freeing Wade. As they flee on their horses, Potter is shot and killed, while Wade and Evans destroy the tunnel behind them with dynamite. The group arrives in Contention several hours before the train's scheduled arrival and check into the hotel, where they are soon joined by several local marshals hired by Butterfield.

Prince ambushes and interrogates the survivor of the decoy wagon, learning that Wade is being delivered to Contention and will board a train to Yuma; he then burns the wagon with the survivor trapped in it. Upon arriving in Contention and discovering the heavy guard around Wade, Prince offers every townsperson a $200 bounty for every guard they kill. The marshals, unwilling to fight against such steep odds, surrender to Prince, who kills them anyway. Butterfield refuses to complete the mission, offering Evans the $200 salary even if Wade goes free. Evans refuses, noting that was the amount the government paid him for the loss of his leg. Instead he asks Butterfield to escort his son back to his ranch and to pay his wife $1,000 and a guarantee of water rights from Hollander in exchange for Evans delivering Wade to the train.

After Butterfield agrees, Evans escorts Wade out of the hotel and the two make their way across town, evading continuous gunfire from the townspeople before taking refuge inside a storeroom. Wade, tired of running, nearly strangles Evans; he relents when Evans reveals that the reason he has a wooden leg (a subject Wade brought up throughout the journey) is that his real leg was lost when Evans was shot by fellow soldiers while in retreat from battle, a story that would shame his sons, and that delivering Wade to Yuma would serve as an accomplishment his sons would admire. Wade relents and agrees to board the train. The two return to the streets, dodging bullets before barricading themselves in the station to wait for the train, where Wade reveals that he's been to Yuma twice and escaped both times.

Wade's gang set up positions around the station as the train approaches. William, observing the events, stampedes a herd of cattle (echoing a similar act performed by Wade earlier in the film) that provides cover for Evans to push Wade onto the train. As Wade boards, he congratulates Evans. At that moment, Prince steps up and shoots Evans four times, despite Wade's shouted order to stop. Wade steps off the train and catches the gun belt Prince tosses him. After a tense moment of silence, Wade abruptly executes Prince and the rest of his gang. William appears and draws his gun on Wade but finds he can't kill him, instead turning to his dying father. Wade boards the train politely and surrenders his weapon. Evans eventually dies as Wade leaves in the train. As the train pulls away, he whistles for his horse, who perks up his ears and immediately canters after the running train into the distance.

Binibining Pilipinas 2009 is the 46th annual Binibining Pilipinas, a beauty pageant in the Philippines. The grand coronation night took place on March 7 at the Araneta Coliseum, and was broadcast by GMA Network and GMA's international channel, GMA Pinoy TV. Only 23 ladies competed for the 3 major crowns due to the disqualification of one candidate.

The pageant was hosted by Paolo Bediones and Iza Calzado together with the pageant's correspondent, Carlene Aguilar, a former Binibining Pilipinas-WORLD. With special guests, Aljur Abrenica, JC Tiuseco, Chris Cayzer, Dingdong Dantes and The Philippine Military Academy Choir.

Keith Hunter Jesperson

As a child, Keith Hunter Jesperson was the middle child with two brothers, Bruce and Brad, and two sisters, Sharon and Jill. Keith was segregated and treated differently by the rest of his family. His father, Leslie (Les) Jesperson, charged Keith room and board, 30 dollars a week, while his brothers and sisters paid nothing. Keith claimed his father was an abusive man who was often drunk. His paternal ancestors also had a history of violence. Les Jesperson denied being an abusive parent; however while investigating for his book Jack Olsen was able to confirm some of the abuse that Keith claimed happened with other family members. Keith tortured animals and set fire to houses and wooded areas. The Jespersons moved from British Columbia to the United States. In Selah, Washington, Jesperson had trouble fitting in and making friends. His brothers didn't help him, instead they nicknamed him "Igor" or "Ig" and the name stuck throughout high school.

Keith Hunter Jesperson (born April 6, 1955, Chilliwack, British Columbia) is a Canadian-born American serial killer known as the "Happy Face Killer" for the smiley face he drew on his many letters to the media and prosecutors.[1] He first drew the smiley face on the wall of a toilet where he left an anonymous confession to killing Taunja Bennett, this was hundreds of miles away from the scene of the crime. When that didn't elicit a response, he began writing letters

Josh Blue (born November 27, 1978) is an American comedian. He was voted the Last Comic Standing on NBC's reality show Last Comic Standing during its fourth season, which aired May–August 2006.[1] Blue has cerebral palsy, and much of his self-deprecating humor is centered on this.
Blue was born in Cameroon, where his father, Walter Blue, a professor of Romance languages from Hamline University, was teaching in a mission. Blue grew up in Saint Paul, Minnesota and graduated from Como Park Senior High School in 1997. Blue currently resides in Denver, Colorado.[2] He began his career as a comedian while seeking a creative writing degree at Evergreen State College.[

Doc Holliday

John Henry "Doc" Holliday (August 14, 1851 – November 8, 1887) was an American dentist, gambler and gunfighter of the American Old West, who is usually remembered for his friendship with Wyatt Earp and his involvement in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
"Doc" Holliday was born in Griffin, Georgia, to Henry Burroughs Holliday and Alice Jane Holliday (née McKey).[1] His father served in both the Mexican-American War and the Civil War.[2] His family baptized him at the First Presbyterian Church in 1852.[3]

In 1864, his family moved to Valdosta, Georgia.[3] Holliday's mother died of tuberculosis on September 16, 1866, when he was 14 years old.[1] Three months later, his father married Rachel Martin. While in Valdosta, he attended the Valdosta Institute,[3] where he received a strong classical secondary education in rhetoric, grammar, mathematics, history, and languages — principally Latin, but also French and some Ancient Greek.[3][4]

In 1870, the 19-year-old Holliday left home to begin dental school in Philadelphia. On March 1, 1872, he received the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery.[1] Later that year, he opened a dental office with Arthur C. Ford in Atlanta.[4] While in Atlanta, Holliday resided with his uncle and his family while beginning his career as a dentist there.[5]

Doc Holliday's famous cousin (by marriage) was Margaret Mitchell, best known for authoring Gone With the Wind. It has been said, but not confirmed, that the character Ashley Wilkes is modeled after Holliday.[6]

Selena

Selena Quintanilla-Pérez (April 16, 1971 – March 31, 1995), known simply as Selena, was a Mexican American singer-songwriter, dancer, model, fashion designer, actress, and record producer. She was named the "top Latin artist of the '90s" and "Best selling Latin artist of the decade" by Billboard, due to her fourteen top-ten singles in the Top Latin Songs chart, including seven number-one hits.[2] She was called "The Queen of Tejano music"[3] and the Mexican equivalent of Madonna.[4] Selena released her first album at the age of twelve. She won Female Vocalist of the Year at the 1987 Tejano Music Awards and landed a recording contract with EMI a few years later. Her fame grew throughout the early 1990s, especially in Spanish-speaking countries.

Selena was murdered at the age of 23 by Yolanda Saldívar, the president of her fan club. On April 12, 1995, two weeks after her death, George W. Bush, governor of Texas at the time, declared her birthday "Selena Day" in Texas.[5] Warner Bros produced Selena, a film based on her life starring Jennifer Lopez, in 1997. Selena's life was also the basis of the musical Selena Forever starring Veronica Vazquez as Selena. In June 2006, Selena was commemorated with a museum and a bronze life-sized statue (Mirador de la Flor in Corpus Christi, Texas), which are visited by hundreds of fans each week.

Wyatt Earp

Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp (March 19, 1848 – January 13, 1929) was an American peace officer in various Western frontier towns, farmer, teamster, buffalo hunter, gambler, saloon-keeper, miner and boxing referee. He is best known for his participation in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, along with Doc Holliday, and two of his brothers, Virgil Earp and Morgan Earp. He is also noted for the Earp Vendetta. Wyatt Earp has become an iconic figure in American folk history. He is the major subject of various movies, TV shows, biographies and works of fiction
